Cataract is a blurring of the naturally clear lens in our eye. For people with cataract, looking through blurred lenses is similar to looking through a frozen or foggy window. Blurred vision caused by cataract can make it difficult to read, drive a car (especially at night) …
Fortunately, cataract surgery is a quick, safe, and effective procedure.
A cataract is a blurring of a naturally clear lens. The lens is located behind the iris, it focuses light that passes into our eye, creating clear, sharp images on the retina. The cataract develops in both eyes, but not evenly, it can be more advanced in one eye than the other, which causes a difference in vision between the eyes. Most cataracts develop slowly and do not impair vision early, but over time, the vision becomes more blurred. In the beginning, stronger lighting and glasses can help us, but as we age, the lenses in the eyes become less flexible, less transparent, and thicker. This way, the cataract blocks light and a sharply defined image from reaching the retina. As a result, vision becomes blurred.
Patients often ask us when it is time for cataract surgery, and we advise that this is when the patient fails to achieve better visual acuity even with the best correction.
Make an appointment for an eye examination if you notice any changes in vision.
If sudden changes in vision occur, such as double vision or flashes of light, sudden pain in the eyes, or sudden headaches, consult a doctor immediately.
