About us
Balog Ophthalmic Polyclinic is located in Osijek, in the city center, for more than 8 years.
In addition to standard procedures, we have introduced a number of new medical services in the field of diagnostics, treatment and surgery of the eye and aesthetic procedures for both the eye and all areas of the face.
At Balog Optics Center we provide optical and optometric services, with a variety of lenses and glasses frames produced by renowned manufacturers.
Thanks to the ever-advancing technology, we are proud to be a teaching base of the Faculty of Medicine at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek. We also employ respectable team of specialists and subspecialists in the field of ophthalmology.

Slaven Balog, MD, specialist ophthalmologist
Slaven Balog, MD is the backbone of the Polyclinic, along with ophthalmic surgeons and ophthalmologists from leading Croatian institutions. He specialized in ophthalmology with additional education in the field of diagnostics and treatment of the diseases of the anterior ocular segment, diagnostics and conservative treatment of posterior ocular segment, cataract surgery and refractive surgery as well as allergic eye diseases and systemic diseases of the eye (high blood pressure, circulatory diseases, rheumatic and other connective tissue diseases, etc.).
Dr Balog’s primary areas of interest are cataract surgery and refractive surgery with the incorporation of premium, custom made and add-on lenses. He solves the issues our patients face very successfully, and he also deals successfully with the increasingly frequent problem of the dry eye. With a team of professionals, he tackles more demanding refractive problems, and administers glasses and contact lenses (soft, semi-rigid, Rose K and scleral).
During his work in the Polyclinic, he also cooperated with top experts for the posterior ocular segment, Professor Ferenc Kuhn and Dr Gyor, PhD. He collaborates successfully with specialists in the field of neurology (through various clinical studies), otorhinolaryngology, internal medicine, and pediatrics.
He regularly participates in domestic and foreign ophthalmological congresses, symposia, and other professional and scientific meetings.
He actively participates as a lecturer at congresses of the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society and continuously attends professional development courses organized by the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society and the Croatian Medical Chamber.
He is a member of the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), the Croatian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society and the Croatian Medical Chamber.

Assistant Professor Antonio Kokot, MD, specialist ophthalmologist and optometrist, subspecialist for the posterior ocular segment
Assistant Professor Antonio Kokot, MD specialized (subspecialized) in posterior ocular segment in 2009. He is continuously improving his knowledge and skills by attending various congresses and symposia.
He is a member of ESCRS and the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society, and often attends congresses and expert seminars as a lecturer. With his effort and knowledge, he continuously grows professionally. He started at the position of a teaching assistant and external associate.
Soon he was promoted from a physician and lecturer to Assistant professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek.


Professor Ferenc Kuhn, MD, PhD
Professor Ferenc Kuhn is a vitreoretinal surgeon and eye trauma specialist. He is the president of the International Society for Eye Trauma and a former president of the American Society for Eye Trauma, and a board member of the European Association for Vital Health. He is a professor of ophthalmology with tenure in the United States and Hungary and is a guest professor (honoris professor) and operator in several countries.
Jelena Petrionić-Dorešić, MD, FEBO specialist ophthalmologist and optometry, subspecialist in pediatric ophthalmology and strabology
Prim dr. Sc. Jelena Petrinović-Dorešić, MD, graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Zagreb in April 1991. After completing the obligatory medical internship at the General Hospital “Sveti Duh” in Zagreb and taking the professional exam in October 1992, she worked as a young researcher at the Ministry of Science. Of the Republic of Croatia on the project “Storage of corneal transplants in rabbits – eye bank”. He specializes in ophthalmology at the Clinic for Ophthalmology, KBC Rebro and at the Eye Department of the General Hospital “Sveti Duh”. In 2012, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia granted her the status of a specialist in the specialty of pediatric ophthalmology and strabology, and in 2014 the status of a specialist in the narrower specialty of the anterior segment of the eye. The title of primarius was awarded to her by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia in 2015. By participating in international examinations in ophthalmology as an examiner, the European Council of Ophthalmology acquired the title of Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO Ad Eundum) in 2014. Her narrow field of interest is pediatric ophthalmology and strabology, as well as cataract surgery.


Dario Lizatović, MD, general surgery specialist and plastic surgery subspecialist
Dario Lizatović, MD, is a specialist in general surgery and a subspecialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He is also a forensic medical expert. He has ten years of experience in cosmetic surgery. Dr Lizatović is licensed to work in Croatia and abroad. His surgical results are consistent with a sense of proportion and beauty.

Roberta Šokac, MD, is a specialist ophthalmologist and an experienced clinician, especially in the field of general ophthalmology and glaucoma. She enjoys the challenges of diagnosing and treating illnesses in various areas of ophthalmology, ranging from the periocular area and surface of the eye to posterior segment diseases and neuroophthalmology.
She is continuously developing her skills and improving her knowledge.


Marija Olujić, dr. med.
Marija Olujić, MD finished her studies in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in
Osijek is the most successful student in her generation.
She is the winner of the Rector’s Award, four Dean’s Awards, and the Lions Club
Award.
She enrolled in Postgraduate Doctoral Study in Biomedicine and Health at the
Faculty of Medicine in Osijek.
She was elected to the title of an assistant in the scientific field of Biomedicine and
Health at the Study of Medicine in the German language at the Faculty of Medicine in
Osijek.
Regularly actively participates in medical congresses, where she wins prizes for the
best-exhibited works.
She is a certified speaker of English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian
language.
Continuously advances in acquiring new knowledge and skills.
Our optometrists

Tomislav Kuček, bacc. ing. opt., optometrist
He completed his undergraduate studies in Zagreb (Polytechnic of Velika Gorica). Specializes in the correction of refractive and other anomalies of the eye, specialization in contactology – keratoconus, work with children. He continues his education in the direction of pediatric optometry.
Member of OCCSEE and Optometric Society. He attends major congresses in Croatia and abroad in the field of semi-rigid contact lenses and pediatric optometry. A pioneer in raising the standard of diopter correction of steps less than 0.25 in collaboration with Essilor so-called AVA (Advanced Vision Accuracy).
Ivan Varžić, bacc. ing. opt., optometrist
He completed his optometric studies in Zagreb (Polytechnic of Velika Gorica). Specializing in the correction of refractive and other anomalies of the eye, narrow specialization of visual impairment in multiple sclerosis under the mentorship of prof.dr.sc. Branimir Cerovski. A pioneer in raising the standard of diopter correction of steps less than 0.25 in collaboration with Essilor so-called AVA (Advanced Vision Accuracy).
He continues to work with children and continues his education in the field of pediatric optometry. Member of OCCSEE and Optometric Society.
