
Episcleritis refers to inflammation of your episclera, which is a transparent layer on top of the white part of your eye, called the sclera.
Episcleritis makes your eye red and irritated, often looks like conjunctivitis, but does not cause discharge. The exact cause of episcleritis is not known, but it is more common in people with inflammatory systemic diseases.
Episcleritis may resolve spontaneously and may require ophthalmic treatment.
